Leo hospital established in 1982 just after the formation of Wayanad district in the year 1980.

kalpetta was a panchayat and it became the district headquarters.But the DMO office and District Hospital was allotted to mananthavady due to political intervention.

Formerly the north Wayanad was a part of Kannur district and southern part was with Kozhikode district.The then population of Wayanad was 5 to 6 lakh representing the entire districts of Kerala and migrants from TamilNadu and Karnadaka as these two are borders states of Wayanad.
